We are a team of socio-educational project "pilgrim", and in this article we will give some quite original experience. For a start tell a little bit about our history.

the idea of a "pilgrim"


It all started with the biological circle. At school № 11 of Obninsk worked biological club "EKOS". Interested youth could learn new things. Led circle Marina Mikhailovna, teacher of biology.

We liked biology. Gradually normal school club began to develop into something more. First, we decided to do in the summer and go camping. Then he went to an overnight trip for two days... Three days...

Finally, we organized the summer school. The first summer school "pilgrim" was held in June 2013.

Start of the first summer school


We, namely the students of the school № 11, their parents and teachers, decided to get up a tent on the nature and study in the summer. In this school each teacher was less than two students. It was very helpful for learning. We wanted to make it so that students were taught not only adults and experienced teachers, and even talented students, who recently were students and therefore understand how best to explain. Historical information

"Summer school" was organized in the USSR. This form of education has advantages in environment summer camp (and most of the LSH like summer camp) the student can not think about anything except studying and relaxing. Usually in summer schools study topics not covered in regular school curriculum. First LSH only had physico-mathematical, but later began to appear natural-scientific, multidisciplinary and humanitarian. Examples of current LSHLASH, Computer School">LKSH, LSRR, "Chimera".

At first the school went to the pupils of our club, their parents and teachers from this school. All the people were already familiar with each other, and therefore to come together, to negotiate and to go camping was easy enough. The school lasted for about 10 days.

The venue of the school was an old recreation center. We shot a few houses.



For 7th graders read biology of the cell. At school she studied later, but some of the summer schools it is traditionally read 6-7-graders. On the one hand, it is a more fundamental approach. On the other hand, perhaps learning something totally new is much more interesting for younger students than in-depth study of already known topics. Although the school was given a lot of material, classes were held in a more free way than in a regular school. Classes were often held outdoors. In General, the first "pilgrim" seemed to be almost the perfect embodiment of the spherical community-in-vacuum: graph of Dating was full and close, and all lived and studied in harmony and unity. Further development


We liked school and we decided to repeat it and even improve.

The second school was held on the same basis and lasted for 21 day more than last time. The second school came pupils from other schools, and even one girl from Vorkuta. The atmosphere of the first school has changed because of the emergence of new people at the first school, all the people were from the same school in the same district of Obninsk, everyone knew each other, and the second school was less familiar people.

I didn't want to invite too many students. I was on the Lash (Summer Ecological School, which attracted 200 people), and noticed that despite the advantages of large-scale summer school – a huge number of people, fires and companies, interesting courses and activities, was and cons. Now we will move from our experience to a more practical and useful recommendations.

1. Follow decisions children


During the second school there was the problem of choice – the children had to choose some courses and abandon others. To pass some courses was recommended to pass others. Children from Junior classes (5-8), it was difficult to choose.

Here is one instance. One seventh-grader went to biochemistry, but at the end of the second day admitted that biochemistry is too complex for it (the study of the biochemistry required knowledge of organic chemistry and was designed for older kids). After that, she transferred to the botany, but as two days had already passed, she had to catch up with the others. Exam she had passed, but when choosing the next course, she always wanted someone to advise her what to choose.
Workshop on biochemistry was in this sense difficult, as there recorded quite a lot of 8th graders but this material was difficult. In Russian schools chemistry is taught from 8th grade, and General biology (contains elements of biochemistry) – 10-th, and 8 th graders lacked the knowledge.

2. Consider bioethics

In our practice, all bioethical issues was the fact that someone felt sorry for someone to cut. When children are raised, they are usually forbidden to torture animals and insects. Actions with plants, limit less, but alas – the limitation is still there. However, at our school, especially in the entomological and hydrobiological course, conducted the autopsy of the living entities. To avoid this, it would be possible to use special layouts, but they are expensive and still different from living creatures that it would be uneducational. Children, especially girls, was pathetic insects and crustaceans.

The problem with pity is not even in universities. When signing the contract of training at the biological faculty of Moscow state University, and on some summer biasalah prescribed separately, that "you will observe, to kill and to dissect living organisms".

3. Pay attention to legal registration


Many good things require competent legal registration. The organization of the summer school also requires a certain amount of documents.

Also, the organization of the intermediary will enter into agreements with doctors, chefs and arrange some other paper.

There is another way. You can create your own "Autonomous nonprofit organization", but it's hard. Some other summer school sporadically tried out a form, getting a lot of difficulties and returned to the original option.

From the first time we "went under the roof" of the school № 11 of Obninsk. During the first school there was a small problem with the food – it was purchased not food and had to buy more. Also had a bit of difficulty with the adoption of children from another school, and at one point we even wanted to change affiliate organization at the local Palace of children's creativity. However, now these differences in the past, and we see no reason to change the legal form.

Because we helped another organization, we would not worry about the references on the health of schoolchildren and other small papers: worked on school No. 11.

4. Seriously engage with issues of power


It is worth considering that the food must be quite varied, useful and high quality. Some students may require some special food, but everyone will have something delicious.

I knew I should make the food more varied. On other summer schools the food was quite monotonous but satisfying. This food not really liked. Since our base was 20 minutes away from the district centre of Yukhnov, we were able to purchase a variety of foods: meat, vegetables, sweets (chocolate, biscuits, sweets).

Most of the students of the school are seventh graders. Many moms came along with us, which allowed not to hire cooks. This year our school will expand, and chefs, we still invited.

5. Equip life





Here's how this thing happened to us:

During the first school we had mosquito repellent which we bought in large quantities.

During the second school – wasps. There were so many. Let's just say dining one of the tricks was "to run away from OS for a few tens of meters with a pot, pour the soup into a bowl and return", because the wasps were hungry.

We don't know what will happen during the third, especially since we chose a new base. However, repellents stocked up in advance.

6. Keep a dialogue with the authorities


The school was initially established as a regional, Kaluga. It actually meant quite a lot: first, there existed a rivalry between Kaluga and Obninsk. Unfortunately, educational institutions of Kaluga reacted negatively to the emergence of new summer school in Obninsk, and we therefore are unable to cooperate with them. This meant that to invite teachers from Kaluga became more difficult and at the same time we lost the opportunity of promotion via Kaluga Ministry of education. Recommendations of the Ministry of education in schools, alert teachers about our school – we just didn't, and therefore advertising had to do themselves.

While we have the support of the government of Kaluga region (but not the administration of Kaluga!) and administration of Obninsk.

Second, summer school is a costly business. The cost of the school for the first time was a small (4000 rubles for 11 days), but the second time it has increased (10,000 rubles for 3 weeks) that was bad. Especially considering the fact that we wanted to invite children from the regions. This time we are going out on the national level, reduced the price, but it still remained rather high (8,000 rubles for 16 days). About half of the money is spent on the base rent and paying for food, the rest of the supplies, reagents, equipment, salaries of teachers, doctors and chefs, making t-shirts and other things with symbols of the school.

Now the school has no formal certifications/accreditations/statusarray other securities. We plan to obtain a certificate of interregional status from the local educational institution "Small Academy of Sciences 'Future you'" negotiations.

Tips for 60 seconds


Think about life in advance in order to teach children, not to wash jerseys and heal cuts.

Now we are working on the third school. There will be a new type of lessons – we will come to the speakers (scientists and journalists) on two or three days with a small course of lectures.
